No BSA Supply mumber

This item appears to be identical to the Varsity Letter. There is no separate listing at BSA Supply for a Venture letter. At one time, the letter may have been available both to Varsity Team members and Boy Scout Venture patrol members, but the current Varsity Scout Guidebook states that the letter is only available to Varsity Scouts. It is my understanding that the entire concept of Venture patrols within Boy Scout troops is likely to be removed from the program completely, due to the confusion with the Venturing program.

Steve, thanks for the info. I've also heard Venture Patrols are (very) soon to be phased out of the program. —RWSmith (Bureaucrat), 20:36, April 14, 2011 (EDT)

Opinion moved from article page to talk page

The following was moved from the article page to here (in case it needs to be re-worded, et al, and re-integrated into the article page):

(*) The individual pamphlets mentioned were discontinued around 2005, and the verbiage quoted above was no longer in the Handbook (33105) by the tenth printing of the 11th edition, now discontinued. Additionally, there is no mention of the Venture letter in the current 12th edition of the Boy Scout Handbook (#34554/34622 coil). (Edited 4-13-11) It is the opinion of this editor that the letter is no longer to be awarded to a Venture patrol member, unless he is registered as a Varsity Team member.
Steve, while I truly appreciate your trying to "improve" the article, what we need to do here is find the facts and then edit, correct, re-write, what ever is necessary... without it seeming like were placing commentary or opinions within the article page itself. So, let's press forward, find out what the deal is, and fix the entire article to match the facts. Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated. Thanks, —RWSmith (Bureaucrat), 20:56, April 14, 2011 (EDT)
P.S. I left the other comment in place, for now, as a reminder to us all about the issue. ;-) —RWSmith (Bureaucrat), 21:05, April 14, 2011 (EDT)
