There is a new 2010 printing of the Astronomy Merit Badge pamphlet in which the requirements have changed. The color cover is nearly identical to the 2008 printing, with the exception that the meteorite on the right side of the cover has been changed to a new image. The new printing has only 9 requirements instead of 10. The old requirement 6, observing a planet at weekly intervals, is not in the new requirements. There are substantial changes to other requirements as well. The inside back cover still indicates that the last revision was 2004. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Emm8x (talk • contribs) Sep 2, 2010. (Please, sign and date your posts on talk pages.)
The Astronomy MB page has not yet been updated, though the requirements changed in 2010. Let me know if you want/need help updating this site. Jbrisson 23:27, May 18, 2011 (EDT)
The revision dates in the top right corner show 2006 for the requirements and 2008 for the pamphlet.
The talk page mentions that the requirements were updated in 2010. Also my new Astronomy pamphlet was updated in 2010 (although the copyright date is 2011 -- I really don't understand that). At any rate, I believe both revision dates need to be updated.
The workbook is also out of date as Requirement 6 (observing a planet at weekly intervals) is still there. I tried to notify the creator, [email protected], but got a nasty message that the email address is not valid.
Dropping Requirement 6 was unfortunate because I consider it to be the most instructive exercise of all the requirements. At least it was for me when I earned Astronomy in 1968. Maybe it could be moved to "Extra Credit" in the workbook.
