NOTE: The requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class may be worked on simultaneously; however, these ranks must be earned in sequence.
* If you use a wheelchair or crutches, or if it is difficult for you to get around, you may substitute "trip" for "hike" in requirement 1b. NOTE: Alternate Requirements for the Second Class rank are available for Scouts with physical or mental disabilities if they meet the criteria listed in the Boy Scout Requirements book.

- The Advancement Campout includes all of the camping, cooking, first aid, and hiking skills through First Class.
- The BSA Camping Troop Program Feature offers meeting and activity plans to include Second Class rank as one of your monthly themes.
- Regarding Requirement 8. Please make certain that the parents of your Scouts are fully informed about the scope and content of the material you will be using. This should be an opt-in program, if done by the Troop. Be careful not to usurp parental authority.
