Sea Scouting is a program of the Boy Scouts of America. It is available to young men and women under the age of 21 who meet any of the following qualifications:

  • are at least 15 years old
OR
  • are 14 years old and have completed the 8th grade.
Prior participation in Boy Scouting or Varsity Scouting is not required.

Sea Scouts is a specialized segment of the Venturing program, which was organized to address members' boating skills and promote knowledge of our maritime heritage. Swimming, lifesaving, first aid, Coast Guard Auxiliary Sailing and Seamanship, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses are taught with the ship by its officers.

Ideals

Sea Scouts will learn and live by the Sea Promise; as part of Venturing they also learn and live by the Venturing Oath and the Venturing Code.

In addition, some ships suppliment these ideals with their own Ship Code, a statement of ideals and conduct developed and approved by the ships' members.
