The Scouter's Training Award is a recognition for registered adult volunteers who meet training and performance requirements while serving for two years in a volunteer position in a Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout Team, Venturing Crew, Sea Scout Ship, Roundtable Staff, or District Committee.


Scouter's Training Award requirements

 

Cub Scout Adult Volunteer

Tenure

  • Complete at least two years of tenure as a registered adult leader in a Cub Scout pack.

Training

  • Complete basic training for any Cub Scout leader position.
  • Complete This Is Scouting training.
  • Attend a pow wow or university of Scouting (or equivalent), or attend at least four roundtables (or equivalent) during each year of the tenure used for this award.

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Participate in an annual pack planning meeting in each year.
  • Serve as an adult leader in a pack that achieves at least the Bronze level of Journey to Excellence in each year. The Quality Unit Award was acceptable if the tenure used was prior to 2011.
  • Give primary leadership in meeting at least one pack Journey to Excellence objective in each year.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level during the two years.

Boy Scout Adult Volunteer

Tenure

  • Complete at least two years of tenure as a registered adult leader in a Boy Scout troop.

Training

  • Complete basic training for any Boy Scout leader position.
  • Complete This Is Scouting training.
  • Attend a university of Scouting (or equivalent), or attend at least four roundtables (or equivalent) during each year of the tenure used for this award.

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Participate in an annual troop planning meeting in each year.
  • Serve as an adult leader in a troop that achieves at least the Bronze level of Journey to Excellence in each year. The Quality Unit Award was acceptable if the tenure used was prior to 2011.
  • Give primary leadership in meeting at least one troop Journey to Excellence objective in each year.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level during the two years.

Varsity Scout Adult Volunteer

Tenure

  • Complete at least two years of tenure as a registered adult leader in a Varsity Scout team.

Training

  • Complete basic training for Varsity Scout leaders.
  • Complete This Is Scouting training.
  • Attend a university of Scouting (or equivalent), or attend at least four roundtables/huddles (or equivalent) during each year of the tenure used for this award.

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Participate in an annual team planning meeting in each year.
  • Serve as an adult leader in a team that achieves at least the Bronze level of Journey to Excellence in each year. The Quality Unit Award was acceptable if the tenure used was prior to 2011.
  • Give primary leadership in meeting at least one team Journey to Excellence objective in each year.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level during the two years.

Venturing Adult Leader

Tenure

  • Complete at least two years of tenure as a registered adult leader in a Venturing crew.

Training

  • Complete basic training for any Venturing leader position.
  • Complete This Is Scouting training.
  • Attend a university of Scouting (or equivalent), or attend at least four roundtables/teen leaders’ council meetings/Venturing officers association meetings (or equivalent) during each year of the tenure used for this award.

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Participate in an annual crew planning meeting in each year.
  • Serve as an adult leader in a crew that achieves at least the Bronze level of Journey to Excellence in each year. The Quality Unit Award was acceptable if the tenure used was prior to 2011.
  • Give primary leadership in meeting at least one crew Journey to Excellence objective in each year.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level during the two years.

Sea Scout Adult Volunteer

Training

  1. Complete Venturing Leader Youth Protection.
  2. Complete Sea Scout Adult Leader basic training.
  3. Complete a boating safety course offered by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power Squadrons, or NASBLA approved boater safety course.

Tenure

  • Complete two years of registered tenure in any adult capacity in Sea Scouts.

Performance

  1. Participate in ILSS training or the quarterdeck training for the ship in each year.
  2. Serve as an adult leader in a ship that achieves at least Bronze level of Journey to Excellence in each year.
  3. Give primary leadership in meeting at least one ship Journey to Excellence objective in each year.
  4. Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level during the two years.
  5. Perform to the satisfaction of the Skipper your assigned leadership duties.

Roundtable Adult Staff Volunteer

Training

  • Review with the roundtable commissioner orientation material in the current Cub Scout Roundtable Planning Guide, Boy Scout Roundtable Planning Guide, or Venturing Roundtable Guide.
  • Review all material in the current Cub Scout Program Helps/Webelos Leader Guide, Troop Program Features, or Varsity Scout Game Plan.
  • Complete basic training for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, or Venturing Roundtable commissioners.

Tenure

  • Complete two years as a registered roundtable staff member. Tenure for one award cannot be used for other training awards.

Performance
Do the following:

  1. Participate in six roundtable staff meetings.
  2. Actively assist in six roundtables.
  3. Conduct a successful roundtable attendance promotion project.
  4. Develop and exhibit a display related to the theme at one roundtable.
  5. Conduct an opening activity and an opening ceremony.
  6. Conduct or be responsible for a major project, presentation, or demonstration at one roundtable.

District Committee Adult Volunteer

Tenure

  • Complete at least two years of registered tenure as a member of a district committee.

Training
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Attend a District Committee Training Workshop.
  • Review The District manual and discuss your role with your operating committee chair, district chair, or district executive.
  • Complete This Is Scouting training.

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Take part actively in at least six district committee meetings.
  • Be a member of an operating committee that meets at least the Bronze level in a related Journey to Excellence objective in each year used for tenure.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region,or national level.

Youth protection (MANDATORY) – every registered adult must be re-certified every two years.
