A program feature is a Scouting program-related topic around which BSA has developed plans for weekly meetings and activities to teach youth knowledge and skills for the topic, culminating in a monthly "main event" (typically as part of a campout). The meeting plans provide progressive teaching and opportunities to demonstrate increasing knowledge and to practice skills leading to the main event.

Since the early 1990s, BSA has provided program features through three-volume publications. In 2019, Scouts BSA Program Features for Troops and Crews became the latest publication of program features. This latest edition, detailing 48 monthly topics, is the same as the previous Program Features for Troops, Teams, and Crews, but with changes to the text to reflect the change of the name of the Boy Scouting program to Scouts BSA.

Beginning in 2014, Program Features for Troops, Teams, and Crews replaced Troop Program Features and Varsity Team Program Features.

Troop Program Features (© 2003, last printed 2012) provided, in a three-volume publication, 36 monthly features for Boy Scout troops. Varsity Team Program Features (© 2000, last printed 2008) provided, in a three-volume set, program ideas and instructions for 27 different sports and high-adventure activities for Varsity Scout teams[Note 1] and Boy Scouting Venture patrols.

While these older program features publications may be out of date with respect to advancement requirements, alignment with the current Guide to Safe Scouting, and developments in each of the program areas, Scouting units may find some of the information and ideas useful. Some of these older publications are available from Scout Shops and/or for download from Scouting.org in English or Spanish editions (see Program Features for Troops, Teams, and Crews, Troop Program Features, and Varsity Team Program Features for links).
