In 1910, the Boy Scouts of America announced 14 "Badges of Merit" in the temporary "Original edition" of the BSA Handbook:
- Ambulance, Clerk, Cycling, Electrician, Fireman, Gardener, Horseman, Marksmanship, Master-of-Arms, Musician, Pioneering, Seamanship, Signaling, and Stalker
In 1911, Master-of-Arms was dropped, 13 were retained (some with changed names), 44 new ones were added, and all became know as "Merit Badges".
