Notes

The merit badges with the most page hits tend to be Eagle required. These also show the most merit badges earned. Scouts learn about requirements and print workbooks for merit badges they will earn.

While the Wiki page hits cannot be exactly correlated with merit badges earned, there are some trends. Overall, for every 2 page hits, there was one merit badge earned. Some merit badges have significant interest but with a low percentage completing the merit badges:

  • American Business - 27 pages hits for each merit badge earned. Least popular - only 539 American Business Merit Badges earned.
  • Bugling - 26 pages hits for each merit badge earned. Only 684 Bugling Merit Badges earned.
Prior to 1989, an average of nearly 2,000 Bugling merit badges were earned each year.
In 1989, a requirement was added to serve 3 months as the Troop Bugler. Unfortunately many troops don't have a Troop Bugler.
  • Fly Fishing - 20 pages hits for each merit badge earned. Only 685 American Business Merit Badges earned.
The number of Fly Fishing Merit Badges earned has continued to decline since it's inception in 2002
Fishing Merit Badge was earned by 26,769 Scouting making it 40 times more popular than Fly Fishing
