| “ | The Cooking merit badge introduces principles of cooking that can be used both at home or in the outdoors. Scouts who earn this badge will learn about food safety, nutritional guidelines, meal planning, and methods of food preparation, and will review the variety of culinary (or cooking) careers available. | ” |
The Cooking merit badge was one of the original 57 merit badges issued by the Boy Scouts of America in 1911.

- Per the BSA: "You should read the merit badge pamphlet on the subject." Pamphlets (books) are at local Scout Shops and online at ScoutStuff.org.
- "Get a signed Merit Badge application from your Scoutmaster." An online, printable Word doc file version is available.
- The BSA Cooking Troop Program Feature offers meeting and activity plans to include Cooking as one of your monthly themes.
- Cooking merit badge meets Sea Scout [Ordinary] rank (requirement 15).
- Sea Scout Skipper may variate from item 5 above having scout prepare for a cruise weekend as stated in Sea Scout Manual.
