The Philmont Training Center Masters Track Award is for dedicated Scout leaders who believe and actively pursue the training process and take their knowledge back to their units, districts, councils, council clusters, national, and international venues. All courses counted must have been earned after June 1, 2008.

To earn the Philmont Training Center (PTC) Conference patch a Scout leader must complete the first track. To earn the PTC Masters Track Award square knot emblem, the Scout leader must complete the first and second tracks. To earn the PTC Masters Track Award device, the Scout leader must complete the first, second and both parts of the third track.

First Track

  • Attend the Philmont Training Center as a summer or fall conference (week 11) participant (would earn the PTC Conference Patch).

Second Track

Complete all three:

  1. Attend an additional (second) course at the Philmont Training Center as a summer or fall conference (week 11) participant.
  2. Recruit three (3) people to attend PTC as a summer or fall (week 11) conference participant.
  3. Teach a BSA course* in one of the following: District, Council, Area, Region.

* Note: Course and participation must be approved by the Council or Area Training Chairperson, prior to working on the course.

Third Track

Part 1

Complete #1 OR #2:

  1. Serve as a faculty member on at least one (1) summer conference course at the Philmont Training Center
    OR
  2. Complete both:
    1. Attend an additional (third) course at the Philmont Training Center as a summer or fall conference (week 11) participant.
    2. Recruit three (3) people to attend PTC as a summer or fall conference (week 11) participant (other than those listed in the Second Track).

Part 2

Complete both #1 AND #2

  1. Coordinate at least one (1) training event, approved by the Council, Area, or Regional Cluster.
  2. Choose from one (1) of the options, listed below:
    1. Coordinate and staff a promotional booth for the Philmont Training Center at a Council event.
    2. Conduct a Philmont Family Meeting to share information on PTC, and encourage family participation.
    3. Teach a training course in a foreign country—Coordinated and approved by the BSA International Division.
