“ | The Cooking merit badge introduces principles of cooking that can be used both at home or in the outdoors. Scouts who earn this badge will learn about food safety, nutritional guidelines, meal planning, and methods of food preparation, and will review the variety of culinary (or cooking) careers available. | ” |
The Cooking merit badge was one of the original 57 merit badges issued by the Boy Scouts of America in 1911.

- Encourage the troop's Chaplain Aide or another Scout to lead the troop or patrol in saying grace prior to meals.
- The BSA Cooking Troop Program Feature offers meeting and activity plans to include Cooking as one of your monthly themes.
- Cooking is a popular summer camp merit badge.
